Sariel is an AU! He is a slight AU, mostly to avoid some hand-wavey ehhhh stuff.
Basically, Sariel's story for the first part of season 3 stays the same. He still possesses Solaseed who, on her deathbed, wanted something good to come of her life. Sariel intends to keep her body safe and attempt to heal it while trying to recover his own form. The divergence takes place when the Holy War begins — Sariel never overextends himself against Estarossa along with Tarmiel. They manage to band together with Elizabeth and the others to put Estarossa down before he consumes the other commandments, Gowther takes care of Mael, and all seems to go well on their end. Sariel and Tarmiel end up guarding Liones while Elizabeth and the others make their way to Meliodas.
After the Holy War and the demon king's true demise, Sariel manages to heal Solaseed and separate himself from her, though his new body resembles hers as he isn't at full strength. His powers aren't at the OP levels they were during both Holy Wars since he's still recovering. As one of the four Archangels, he still has his Grace of Tornado, which basically means he uses wind magic. He's also capable of healing.
tl;dr his body is his own and his powers are nerfed so they're not absurd.
